Welcome to the Habit Lab

The Habit Lab is the official website of the Habit Workshop (HABIT), a participatory co-creation series to inform design decisions (Research-to-Design) and drive behaviour change through education and practice. HABIT is a collaborative initiative between the University of Leeds (UK) and the University of León (Spain).

Meet the Team

The fund began as an idea from Edel Moore, who brought the three of us together. What followed was the creation of a brilliant research team, united by our shared passion for habits and behaviour—drawing on the strengths of design, business, and neuroscience.

Research Areas

IAE Université Savoie Mont-Blanc

Fashion Overconsumption

The first study focused on online fashion overconsumption. We conducted two workshops on campus at the University of Leeds, UK, and IAE Université Savoie Mont-Blanc, France.

Social Media

The second study was conducted online at the School of Design, University of Leeds, as part of a research fund to explore social media usage and identify the impact of dark patterns on user behaviour.

Diet and Diabetes Management

As part of our collaboration with the Leeds NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, we conducted a habit workshop with the diabetes PPI community at St George’s Conference Centre, Leeds, UK.

Physio & Rehabilitation

Both medical and design students at the University of Leeds collaborated to develop an interactive design solution to motivate patients to exercise at home through gamification.

“From self-reflection I feel as though I saw online shopping as a reward, something to look forward to and to be excited about, which although may be positive in the short run it has big negative impacts in the long run.”
